The first night race for the 2007 season at SIR was Friday, April 7th. By the time racing got underway at 5 PM there were almost 300 race and street cars on the property. With racing action winding down by midnight, the highlight for many racers was the Gambler. Friday’s winner was John Thoma in his ’79 Mustang. John had to overcome the reaction time advantage of Fred Stout in his ’73 Nova to get the win. John had a .036 light, dialed an 11.18 and ran an 11.196 at 119.11 MPH to Fred’s .007 reaction time. Early Saturday morning the SIR staff was back in place and ready to send Jr. Dragsters and Big Wheel racers down the track. The Big Wheel team race final was won by Kendra Holly from Vail, AZ. Cody Thomas from Queen Creek, AZ placed 2nd. The final for the 8-12 year olds found Zander Hart from Tucson take a double breakout win over Dannielle Trammell from Casa Grande. Jr. Dragsters 13-17 were the next to finish up. Their final pitted local driver Donny Toia against the Chandler resident, Jacob Reber in his Checker Shucks & Kragan car. Jacob took the win when Donny went red by .011 at the tree. Jacob took the free pass to let his dragster go. He ran under his 8.02 dial with a 7.965 run at 82.34 MPH with a .070 light. Donny also ran under his 8.23 dial with an 8.206 run at 79.31 MPH for the #2 spot.
