Race #6 of the Indicom Electric AZ Super Comp started Friday night, Sept. 28th with a $20 gambler.  Allen Smith, driving his wife’s Camaro got the first victory of the weekend.  Allen dialed a 12.72 and ran a break-out 12.652 at 106.14 MPH.  Jesus Scaff Jr. turned on the red at the tree by .159 for the runner-up spot.  The best package award from Airaid worth $100.00 and the number one qualifier worth a set of spark plugs both went to Mark LaLonde.  Indicom Electric AZ Super Comp Association thanks Airaid and Allen Fillebrown for the awards at all races through-out the year.  Blake Williams went back to a final in the race #6 after winning race #5 two weeks ago.  Blake also had to borrow a car after his motor let go in round #2.  His father, Bruce Williams lent son Blake the equipment to win his 2nd final in two races.  Blake’s perfect .000 reaction time gave him the hole shot victory over the #1 qualifier Mark LaLonde.  Mark ran a closer 9.176 on the 9.15 index, bit with the .092 reaction time; he could not catch Blake’s 9.256 at 156.95 MPH.

Super Gas put the multi-time champion, Don Toia back in the winners circle.  Roger Fillebrown driving his ’27 “Olds Timer” Ford went way under the 10.18 index with a 9.976 at 133.45 MPH for #2.  Toia ran a 10.226 at 137.55 after his .119 reaction time to log another win at SIR.

In the Super Quick (8.50 Index) final all eyes were on Phillip Narum.  Phillip had never won or been in a final before.  Phillip had to face the last Super Quick winner, Chuck Hawk, Jr.  Narum did what he needed to do at the starting line with a .019 light to Chuck’s .022, but could not out run Chuck’s 7.646 at 155.24 MPH with his 7.739 at 171.29 MPH.  Chuck’s youngest son and current High School Champion, Matt took the No Box final over Tom Payton’s ’57 Corvette.  Matt took his .030 reaction time and ran a 12.405 ET on his 12.33 dial at 97.05 MPH to victory.  Tom dialed a 10.74 and was a little late at the light with a .137 reaction time and ran a 10.864 at 123.79 MPH for the runner-up spot.

Two beautiful blue ovals fought through the field to be in the Box final.  Joseph Landavazo drove his newly painted Ford Mustang to the number one spot when he dialed a 9.18 and ran a close 9.182 at 148.76 MPH after his .013 reaction time.  Mike Gardner had a better reaction time with a .005 in his ’67 red Falcon, but broke out by two hundredths at 117.93 MPH to come in a close second.

The Jr Dragster Team race #7 was also contested on Saturday.  Austin Gardner from El Paso, Texas took the win over Tucsonan, Storm Dotson in the 8-12 category.  Remy Reber from Chandler, AZ topped Sheldon Chabra from Deming, NM when Sheldon went red in the 13-17 category.  The Jr. Dragster Consolation race was a single for Justin Maracigan when Zac Harris broke at the starting line.

The next event at SIR is the Military Appreciation Jet Car Nationals on Oct 5th and 6th.  We will also feature the AZ Door Slammer Association and a 10.00 and Quicker Bracket Race.  Gates for both days are at 4 PM.
